Sharmeen Obaid to make a Film on Qandeel Baloch

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, is Pakistan’s most DARING documentarian. Tackling the most horrific issues of the country like acid violence and honor killing’s, it is not strange to us by now, that Sharmeen Obaid always picks up the most difficult of subjects to make her documentaries and films.

“Honour killing is a taboo subject in Pakistan. It’s a very private affair. It happens when a father kills a daughter, when a brother kills a sister and it’s left in the family” said Sharmeen while talking to BBC UK about her film The Girl in The River – A piece of forgiveness.

Sharmeen Obaid has received criticism from people who say she only highlights the worst aspects of the country.
So this is pretty much obvious, that there will be reactions when people come to know that Qandeel Baloch is a subject for her upcoming film.

When asked about who she deals with all the negative remarks that people make, she confidently said “I live in Pakistan and I must talk about these issues.”

Sharmeen is known for leaving no leaf unturned when it comes to revealing the deep dark secrets in her film. If she does make a film on Qandeel Baloch, people shall be very much looking forward to revelation of some untold facts about Qandeel’s life.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is the only Pakistani to win two Oscar awards.
Apart from two Oscars, Sharmeen Obaid has also won two Emmy Awards for her documentaries in 2010 and 2013, and was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (The Crescent of Distinction), the second highest civilian award of Pakistan, in 2012, soon after she won her first Oscar.

Qandeel Baloch who rose to fame owing to her provocative videos on Facebook, in one of which she claimed to perform a striptease for her viewers and fans if Pakistan won Twenty20 WorldCup.
She was murdered in the wee hours on July 16 by her younger brother, Waseem who pleaded guilty after arrest and termed the crime an act to reclaim ‘honour’ of the family.

Her parents held their sons responsible for the crime and stated that they would not pardon them, though latter in September, father of slain Facebook celebrity, Qandeel Baloch has done an about-face on his statement, this time, claiming innocence on part of his sons who are accused of the murder in an ‘honour killing’ case.
