Attaullah Khan Meets Nescafe Basement Talent Mehak Ali
Mehak Ali, first came into limelight last summers when she gave her vocals to a remake of a punjabi wedding song, Kala Doriya for the Pakistani film Dekh Magar Pyaar Say, starring Humaima Malick and Sikander Rizvi.
Though the film failed to make much of an impact at the box office, this particular number ‘Kala Doriya’ was noticed by many and later became a track that was played and danced on to at every mehndi, mayon for the entire wedding season.
“While recording for Kala Doriya at PMR Studio Works, I did not know that my voice will be loved by so many people out there, it was my first commercial project and I was as nervous as any newcomer would be” – recalls Mehak
Months after the release, Mehak auditioned for Xulfi’s Nescafe Basement.
“I read online that the auditions were taking place in Lahore, so I went for the auditions, without telling anyone. The auditions for season 4 of Nescafe Basement were taking place nation wide, so I was not very hopeful. Why would I be picked, when there were so many others around me who were so talented was what I thought to myself” – shares Mehak.
Nature had plans for Mehak otherwise….
Xulfi not only chose Mehak to be a part of season 4 in Nescafe Basement, but keeping both Mehak’s rawness and charming freshness in mind, opted the most unusual track for her: ‘Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi’s Kameez Teri Kaali’

Hours within the release of the episode, contemporary rendition of Attaullah Khan Essakhilvi’s ‘Kameez Teri Kali’ by Mehak got raving reviews by every one. It’s not every day that one witnesses an Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi number being performed by an amateur female singer.

A month later, Mehak gets to meet the legend Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi.
“This is the most turning point in my life, I get to meet Attaullah Khan Sahab. I got to learn a lot from him and about him. I dont think I will ever forget this moment. It will remain eteched in my mind and heart forever” admits Mehak excitedly.
Mehak Ali and Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi made an appearance on ‘Ek Naye Subha with Farah’ on Aplus Entertainment. The episode of which is expected to go on air tonight.
