PMR Interviews Photographer and Model Waqar Ahmed Butt

The modelling industry is constantly looking for new faces. Designers like to use different faces to represent their collection in each season. Model agencies are always on the lookout for the next top model. In general, the male modelling industry is not as popular as the female modelling industry. But in the recent years, the male modelling industry has grown a lot and there are a few male models who’ve managed to become celebrities and actors, making big name for themselves in the industry.
One such name amongst the male models is Waqar Ahmed Butt. Straight forward, honest and a very dedicated professional, Waqar Ahmed Butt was recently spotted with the veteran actor Shan Shahid at a shoot. Whether it was for a TVC or a film or drama, is what we need to wait and find out; in the mean while PMR decided to catch up with him so that he could tells us more about himself and the fantastic start to his career both as a photographer and as a model…

PMR: Photographer or Model? What best describes you?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: Modelling will always be my first love. I love to flirt with the camera.

PMR: How would you describe yourself for someone who does not know you?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: Short tempered, straight forward, honest and a very dedicated person.

PMR: Rizwan Ali Jaffri is said to have persuaded you into modelling… How did that happen?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: Rizwan Ali Jaffri spotted me at a restaurant and he persuaded me to start modelling career. I was always interested in photography, so took his offer as opportunity to explore my side of being infront of the camera for a trial. As soon as I started my modelling career, things started to fall in place and now I have my amazing team of Paragon studio and salon.

PMR: Where do you get your inspiration and creativity from?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: As far as photography is concerned, I am a huge fan and admirer of Guddu Shani and Nadir Feroze Khan’s work. I think they have redefined the standards of photography in Pakistan.

PMR: Who is one designer you would really like to walk the ramp for?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: Giorgio Armani.

PMR: Model is always associated with females. The industry itself focused very little on male models, it’s only until recently people have started recognizing male models.. How do people usually react when you tell them that you are a model?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: Usually I don’t tell anyone I am a model. I want the world to recognize me and my work without me bragging about it! And Yes Its true, I think it will still take few years for this industry to give it due reorganization to Male models. It’s a work in progress.

PMR: What advice would you give for aspiring male models?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: ‘ A man can be destroyed but not defeated’. Whatever the situation is, you should not lose hope. Your golden opportunity might just be around the corner.

WAQAR AHMED BUTT: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, Abida Parveen jee, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Mukesh ji.

PMR: What lies ahead for you?
WAQAR AHMED BUTT: I think acting is a natural transition for any model. I would love to be a part of television dramas and silver screen projects. But my end goal is to become a filmmaker. My dream is to create a charity where we don’t just assist the less fortunate people with money, but with education and training. So they can earn the means to support their families one day themselves.
