Pakistan’s first ever animated TV series ‘Burka Avenger’ has been nominated for International Emmy Kids Awards. The nominations were uncovered yesterday. Aaron Haroon Rashid, the creator & director of ‘Burka Avenger’ made the announcement from his official Twitter account.

Already bagged many awards, the animated series has made its way to ‘Animation’ category of IEKA. This is the first time any Pakistani series has made it to IEKA.

13 episodes long series aired on Geo Tez in 2013.

Burka Avenger is a story of a girl named ‘Jiya’, who’s a superheroine, uses Burka to hide her identity from the rest of the world and fights for Justice, equality, peace and education.

The series has already previously won several awards which includes ‘Peabody Award 2013’, ‘Gender Equity Prize’ and the ‘Rising Star Award’ in the animation category at Canada International Film Festival, while was nominated for even more.

Burka Avenger stars Ainy Jaffri & famous Hamza Ali Abbasi, who lend their voices for characters of Jiya (Burka Avenger) & Baba Bandook, respectively. The music of series also includes voices of Subcontinent’s famous Ali Zafar, Ali Azmat, Haroon, Josh & others.

The IEKA ceremony will be held in New York on 20th Feb. 15.
